Intramural leiomyoma of uterus, also called an intramural uterine fibroid, is a benign (non-cancerous) tumor that grows within the muscular wall (myometrium) of the uterus. When small, intramural fibroids often cause no symptoms; larger ones may lead to heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding, pelvic or lower-back pain, pressure on the bladder or bowel, and discomfort during intercourse. Because they draw extra blood and interfere with uterine contractions, they can even cause anemia. Treatment depends on symptom severity, fibroid size, and future fertility wishes. Options range from watchful waiting to hormone therapy, surgical removal (myomectomy or hysterectomy), or less-invasive procedures. To discover more, please check the USA Fibroid Centers site.
